Growing up in East Texas

I was born in the Deep South in the early 1960s. My earliest memories of music begin in a small Baptist church. We had a choir that sang on Sunday mornings, and various soloists would sing on Sunday night, but the music that peaked my imagination, at that early phase of my musical development, was the occasional Southern Gospel Quartet that would grace us with a concert. Little did I know that these early influences would blossom into a passion that would last for over fifty years!
I am dedicating the first few pages of my blog to remember the legacy of those early Gospel music pioneers, and some of my memories of watching them perform. I shared their songs with my friends and family and encouraged others to buy their records.
Please forgive this ’old man’ if I linger too long in the glorious sounds of four-part harmony. In time, I will progress into the contemporary genre of the 1980’s, but for now, my readers will need to pull up a chair, and imagine the unique sounds of the Southern Gospel Quartet.
